Program Purpose:
The purpose of the Ageless Art Project is to make creative expression
possible for the residents of skilled nursing and assisted care homes
in Santa Cruz County. By holding art classes within the facilities
in which the residents live, Ageless Art is able to reach people
who, because of their infirmity and disibilities, would otherwise
have little or no access to the cultural life of the community. Additionally,
the Ageless Art Project provides the community with a new and positive
view of care facility residents through public exhibits of their
creative work.
History:
Ageless Art Project was started in 1986 with one volunteer artist working
at a single
facility with five residents. Since its start, hundreds of care facility
residents
have attended Ageless Art Project classes. Currently, the Project serves
residents of eight care facilities.
Service Description:
Ageless Art Project volunteers are
artists working in a broad spectrum of mediums who lead weekly fine art classes within the care
facilities for the residents.
