WomenCARE

A safe haven where women with any type of cancer find mutual support, shared experiences, and open hearts.

We're here each step of the way.

We provide cancer advocacy, resources, practical and emotional support, and education to women, their families and friends, and healthcare practitioners at each stage of the journey: diagnosis, healing, surviving, or dying.

Who We Are

WomenCARE is directed and led primarily by women with cancer or a cancer history.

We respect and depend upon the wisdom that comes from a diversity of cultures, economic backgrounds, ages, sexual orientations, and physical ability levels. We acknowledge cancer as a complicated disease that strikes at random, as a disease that can weave innumerable changes into women’s lives. We believe that no woman is to blame for getting cancer; and we honor the unique relationship each individual has to the disease.

What We Offer

Explore the ways that WomenCARE supports women with cancer and their loved ones. Want to get involved? Learn how you can contribute to providing these services as a volunteer.

Support Groups

We offer a weekly Cancer Support group, ARM-in-ARM – for women with advanced, recurrent, or metastatic cancer – a Spanish speaking group, and Post-Treatment group (pre-registration is required).

Healing Circle Workshops

Process your experience through Soul Collage, Laughter Yoga, Zentangle, Complementary Treatment Forum, Meditation or a Writing Circle.

Practical Support

We are here to help with day-to-day tasks during treatment. Our team of volunteers can drive women to medical appointments or run errands for them.

Sisters Offering Support (SOS)

We provide one-on-one peer support by connecting a newly diagnosed woman with a woman who has already been through treatment (standard Western treatment, complementary treatment, or both). This opportunity allows a newly diagnosed woman to gain knowledge and strength from a woman who has been in her shoes. If you are interested in being a Sister, or would like to speak with one, please call our office at (831) 457-2273.

Entre Nosotras

We provide free assistance for Spanish-speaking women who have been diagnosed with cancer. Our services include networking with health care professionals; direct contact with newly diagnosed women through phone calls and home visits; referrals to social services; and support groups in Spanish.

Resources

WomenCARE provides a variety of resources to those in need:

  • Lending library
  • Resource database
  • WomenCARE advocates: Legal services (simple wills and durable power of attorney) for women with cancer
  • Phone support: during office hours, front desk volunteers are here to listen, answer questions, and explain our services
